Iran missiles have become one of the most sensitive and controversial issues in global security discussions, especially as Tehran enters new rounds of nuclear negotiations with the United States. The country’s expanding missile program is widely seen as both a strategic defense system and a regional power tool, shaping diplomatic tensions across the Middle East.

A ballistic missile is a rocket powered weapon that travels upward under guidance and then follows a free fall path toward its target. These missiles can carry conventional warheads and, potentially, nuclear, chemical, or biological payloads. Western nations view Iran missiles as a major security threat, fearing they could one day serve as delivery systems for nuclear weapons. Iran, however, continues to deny any intention of building atomic bombs, stating its missile program is purely defensive.

Iran is believed to possess the largest ballistic missile stockpile in the Middle East. Its missiles have an estimated self imposed range of up to 2,000 kilometers, allowing them to reach Israel and other regional targets. Many launch and storage facilities are hidden in underground missile bases, often referred to as missile cities, which are spread across several provinces and strategic مناطق near the Gulf.

During the June 2025 conflict, Iran fired ballistic missiles into Israel, causing significant destruction and civilian casualties. It also targeted the US Al Udeid base in Qatar, demonstrating its retaliatory strike capability. Iran has previously used missiles in Iraq, Syria, and against US led forces, showing a consistent pattern of missile based deterrence.

Iranian officials describe their missile program as a defensive shield, designed to prevent foreign aggression. Experts, however, see it as a growing regional power strategy, supported by underground production facilities, improved materials, and advanced technologies including hypersonic missile development. These capabilities make Iran missiles one of the most powerful and complex military tools in the Middle East today.
