Apple is reportedly preparing a major design transformation for its upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, expected to launch in September 2026. According to recent leaks, this could be the most significant visual change Apple has introduced in years, centered around the long-anticipated under-screen Face ID technology.
Reports suggest Apple plans to place the TrueDepth camera system beneath the display, allowing Face ID to function without visible sensors on the screen. This advancement would remove the familiar Dynamic Island cutout from Pro models, offering a cleaner and more immersive display experience. The front-facing camera is still expected to remain visible through a small hole punch, likely positioned in the top left corner, marking a shift from Apple’s traditional centered camera layout.
Beyond design, the iPhone 18 Pro lineup is expected to receive major internal upgrades. Apple may debut its A20 Pro chip, built on TSMC’s advanced 2nm process, promising significant performance gains and improved power efficiency. Another notable change could be the introduction of Apple’s first in-house cellular modem, potentially reducing reliance on external suppliers.
Additional rumours point to enhanced camera capabilities with a variable aperture, a larger battery enabled by a thicker chassis, and new colour options such as burgundy or coffee brown. The devices are also expected to feature 6.3 and 6.9-inch displays, along with a 120Hz refresh rate. While September remains the scheduled launch window, speculation continues about a possible split release strategy.
