Millions of people across Pakistan faced severe disruption as widespread internet outages hit major cities including Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore. The slowdown left businesses, students, and households in a state of digital blackout, with connectivity either collapsing or crawling at unusable speeds.
The impact was felt across daily life, from Zoom meetings and WhatsApp calls to online classes and banking transactions. Social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and TikTok were among the hardest hit, while even Google services experienced interruptions, frustrating users nationwide.
The crisis peaked between 7 PM and 9 PM on Tuesday, when internet traffic nearly came to a halt in several regions. Families, freelancers, and companies were left stranded as online communication and work were abruptly cut off.
Leading telecom operators including PTCL, Ufone, and Zong, as well as internet service providers like Nayatel, reported widespread disruptions. Nayatel attributed the problem to its upstream provider, assuring customers that efforts were underway to restore normal connectivity. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has not yet issued an official explanation, fueling public concern.
The internet crisis in Pakistan not only disrupted communication but also exposed vulnerabilities in the country’s digital infrastructure. Experts argue that with the economy and education increasingly dependent on stable connectivity, Pakistan urgently needs stronger and more resilient internet systems to prevent future blackouts.
