The sisters of former prime minister Imran Khan on Wednesday openly criticised the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf PTI leadership, accusing them of remaining silent and inactive regarding their brother’s legal and political battles. Speaking to reporters outside the Islamabad High Court IHC, Aleema Khan, accompanied by Uzma Khan and Noureen Khanum, questioned why senior party figures were not aggressively pursuing his cases.
Aleema asked why Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Latif Khosa, and Barrister Ali Zafar were not actively following up on the legal proceedings. She expressed frustration over what she described as a lack of visible effort to secure Imran Khan’s release, saying the leadership appeared absent from the political and legal frontlines.
The former premier, aged 73, has been jailed since August 2023 after being convicted in multiple cases that he maintains were politically motivated following his removal from office in 2022. His health has recently become a fresh point of debate between the government and the opposition. He was shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences PIMS where he received treatment for his diagnosed eye condition, including an anti VEGF injection.
Aleema insisted that her brother remain the central figure of national politics and that the family would continue to raise their voice regardless of political pressure. She criticised party leadership for failing to keep the family informed about legal developments and alleged that important decisions were being made without consultation.
Uzma Khan also voiced concern, stating that the family often remains unaware of case updates. Aleema further claimed that despite Imran’s repeated instructions to file petitions, party officials had not ensured progress in higher courts.
Calling for immediate action, Aleema demanded clarity from the leadership about their stance and urged them to actively defend the party founder’s legal and medical rights.
