The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed authorities to arrange a meeting between Imran Khan and his lawyer Barrister Salman Safdar at 2pm tomorrow, marking a significant development in ongoing legal proceedings related to the £190 million case.

The order was issued by a two member bench led by Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar and Justice Muhammad Asif during a hearing on petitions concerning the suspension of sentences of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. The court approved the lawyer’s request to meet his client in jail, emphasizing the importance of proper consultation before proceeding with appeals.

During the hearing, Barrister Safdar requested permission to meet Imran Khan, which the court immediately granted. The chief justice instructed jail authorities to facilitate the meeting and accepted the proposed time of 2pm on Wednesday. He further advised the lawyer to first consult his client before finalizing arguments for the appeals.

The court also indicated its intent to expedite the legal process, stating that once arguments begin, the appeals could be decided within seven days. This statement reflects the court’s urgency in addressing the high profile case.

Barrister Safdar additionally urged the court to take up the sentence suspension plea of Bushra Bibi at the earliest, highlighting the need for swift relief. The court acknowledged the request and suggested scheduling appeals on a regular basis.

The case has drawn considerable attention as Imran Khan, the PTI founder, has been in custody since August 2023 and is facing multiple charges, including corruption and terrorism related allegations following his removal from power in 2022.

Concerns about his health condition were also discussed, with reports indicating that he is suffering from a serious eye issue known as central retinal vein occlusion. Earlier, the court had ordered the formation of a medical board to evaluate his health.

This latest directive highlights the court’s focus on ensuring fair legal proceedings and timely justice.
