RAWALPINDI: Concerns about the health of former prime minister Imran Khan, particularly his eyesight, have intensified as lawmakers from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and members of the opposition alliance Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Aiyeen Pakistan (TTAP) continued their sit-in protest for a fourth consecutive day on Monday.
The demonstrations are being held outside Parliament House, Parliament Lodges, and KP House, resulting in the complete closure of Constitution Avenue. The opposition alliance has vowed to continue the protest until Imran Khan is shifted from Adiala Jail to Al-Shifa Eye Trust Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
The controversy intensified after a medical report submitted by Barrister Salman Safdar, acting as amicus curiae in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, confirmed that the PTI founder has been diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO). This serious eye condition is commonly linked to high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, and heart disease. According to the report, he has suffered an alarming 85% loss of vision in his right eye.
Several prominent opposition leaders, including Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Sohail Afridi, and Ali Amin Gandapur, are participating in the protest. Meanwhile, sources revealed that a panel of five senior doctors conducted an hour-long examination and noted a significant reduction in eye pain and signs of improvement. The complete medical report has been submitted to authorities to meet the judicial deadline of February 16.
Separately, Imran Khan has approached the Islamabad High Court seeking suspension of sentence in the Toshakhana-2 case and requesting bail on medical and humanitarian grounds. He and his wife, Bushra Bibi, were sentenced to 17 years’ imprisonment in the case related to the alleged underpriced purchase and sale of state gifts. Another petition has also been filed requesting an early hearing in the Al-Qadir Trust case, widely known as the £190 million scam.
