The Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf has expressed serious concern over recent media reports regarding Imran Khan health, after claims surfaced that the jailed former prime minister is suffering from a serious eye condition. The issue has sparked renewed political debate and raised questions about medical care and human rights inside prison facilities.
Speaking to reporters in Rawalpindi, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said he learned about the alleged eye ailment through media reports. He stated that if the information is accurate, it is deeply worrying and requires immediate attention. He stressed that family meetings are crucial in such circumstances to ensure transparency and reassurance.
According to PTI statements, credible reports suggest that Imran Khan has been diagnosed with Central Retinal Vein Occlusion in his right eye. Medical experts reportedly examined him in jail and warned that the condition is highly sensitive and could lead to permanent vision loss if not treated promptly. The party said this medical emergency cannot be handled properly within a jail environment.
The PTI further claimed that the Adiala jail administration is insisting on conducting treatment inside the prison, despite specialists advising that proper care requires an operation theatre and specialised facilities. The party described this approach as dangerous, saying it places both Imran Khan health and eyesight at serious risk.
Another key concern raised was that Imran Khan was last allowed to see his personal physician in October 2024, which PTI described as a clear violation of court orders and fundamental human rights. The party demanded that he be immediately allowed unrestricted meetings with his family and be transferred to Shaukat Khanum Hospital or another reputable medical facility of his choice.
Shaukat Khanum Hospital later confirmed that it had requested permission to send a medical team to examine Khan, though it said it could not independently verify the reports.
However, Khan’s sister Noreen Khan rejected the claims, stating that he has no eye related issue and is in good health. She alleged that false information was being circulated deliberately to create confusion.
Imran Khan has been imprisoned since August 2023 and faces multiple legal cases. PTI warned that any lasting damage to his eyesight would be the responsibility of the government and prison authorities.
