England stormed into the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 semi finals after a thrilling two wicket victory over Pakistan in the Super Eight clash at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Kandy. The dramatic win marked England’s second consecutive triumph in the Super Eights, making them the first team to secure a semi final berth and strengthening their position at the top of Group 2 with four points.

Chasing a competitive target of 165 runs, England reached 165 for eight with five balls remaining. The hero of the night was captain Harry Brook, who delivered a sensational match winning century under immense pressure. England’s innings began on a shaky note as Shaheen Shah Afridi tore through the top order, dismissing Phil Salt, Jos Buttler and Jacob Bethell early, leaving England struggling at 35 for three.

Despite the early collapse, Brook held firm and rebuilt the innings with crucial partnerships. He added valuable runs alongside Sam Curran and later found solid support from Will Jacks, stitching together a vital 52 run stand. Brook’s magnificent 100 off 51 balls, featuring ten fours and four sixes, earned him the Player of the Match award.

Pakistan fought back through Mohammad Nawaz, who struck twice in a tense over, but Jofra Archer sealed the victory with a boundary in the final over. Shaheen was Pakistan’s standout bowler with four wickets for 30 runs.

Earlier, Pakistan posted 164 for nine after opting to bat first. Farhan top scored with a steady 63 off 45 balls, while Shadab Khan provided late momentum. For England, Liam Dawson claimed three crucial wickets to restrict Pakistan’s total.

The thrilling encounter highlighted England’s resilience and big match temperament as they marched confidently into the semi finals.
