A strange and unexpected moment unfolded during the Pakistan vs India ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 match in Colombo when a swarm of insects invaded the ground right after the floodlights were turned on.
The sudden appearance of bugs caused visible discomfort among players, especially the Pakistani team. Bowler Nashra Sandhu was seen trying to wave them away with a towel after consulting the umpire, but the insects refused to leave. As the problem worsened, Pakistan’s reserve players rushed onto the field carrying insect repellent sprays.
Leading the charge, Captain Fatima Sana began spraying around her teammates in an attempt to create some relief. Substitute Iman Fatima even sprayed another player’s cap, yet the insects persisted. The bizarre scene drew attention online as clips of the incident went viral.
Play was temporarily stopped while ground staff sprayed the entire field. After a brief delay, the match resumed once conditions improved.
Pakistan had earlier won the toss and decided to bowl first against India at the R Premadasa Stadium. Despite facing a rough start to their World Cup 2025 campaign after losing their first match to Bangladesh, the team’s humor and unity in handling this odd situation showed great sportsmanship and composure under pressure.
