The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced plans to auction fancy vehicle number plates bearing the names of top political leaders, a move expected to attract strong public interest and generate revenue for the national exchequer.
According to provincial officials, the number plates will feature names of prominent figures, including Imran Khan, President Asif Ali Zardari, and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. Speaking to the media, Provincial Minister for Excise and Taxation Syed Fakhar Jehan confirmed that plates carrying the names of PPP founder Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz will also be included in upcoming auctions.
The minister said the auction will be conducted in phases. In the first phase, scheduled for January 27, number plates titled Imran Khan 804 and Imran Khan 1 will go under the hammer at Nishtar Hall in Peshawar. Plates featuring the names of other political and national figures will be offered in subsequent phases.
An official advertisement by the Excise and Taxation Department also revealed that number plates bearing the names of various tribes and castes, including Afridi, Gandapur, Durrani, Kundi, Yousufzai, Mahsood, and Khattak, will be auctioned on the same day.
Citizens interested in participating can submit applications through the Dastak app, with the deadline set for January 26, 2026. Bidding will start from Rs 1 million, and officials say public response has been encouraging.
