Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) social media activist Falak Javed has been arrested once again, this time in connection with a Zaman Park clash involving Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police personnel. The Lahore police formally took her into custody and presented her before an anti-terrorism court (ATC), seeking remand for further investigation.
Earlier, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) produced Javed before a magistrate at the end of her physical remand, after which the court sent her to jail on a 14-day judicial remand. The charges against her include misusing social media platforms and allegedly posting content against state institutions and a provincial minister.
The Lahore police informed the court that Javed had also been nominated in an FIR registered at the Race Course police station, following which the judge approved the police’s request for custody.
This is not Javed’s first arrest. In September, law enforcement agencies (LEAs) raided an Islamabad apartment belonging to a top PTI lawyer, where Javed was found and taken into custody. Her repeated arrests highlight the ongoing tension between PTI’s digital team and law enforcement agencies, as authorities continue to monitor online political activity linked to the party.
