The Pakistani medical community is deeply mourning the tragic loss of Dr. Maryam Shoukat, a 27-year-old young doctor pursuing her residency in the United States. She passed away just 30 minutes before she was scheduled to undergo a life-saving liver transplant at Rutgers University Hospital.

Her story had already touched countless lives. As news of her condition spread, doctors, medical students, and community members from both the US and Pakistan united to support her. An urgent fundraising campaign raised nearly $400,000, covering her medical and hospital expenses, showcasing the compassion and solidarity of the Pakistani diaspora worldwide.

Despite all odds, a matching donor was found, and the hospital had given its approval for the surgery. For a moment, hope was alive. Unfortunately, her health deteriorated rapidly before the operation, and despite medical efforts, her life could not be saved.

Organizations like APPNA (Association of Physicians of Pakistani Descent of North America), along with her colleagues and friends, paid tribute to Dr. Maryam. They remembered her as a dedicated doctor, a courageous fighter, and a symbol of hope for many who prayed for her recovery.

Her untimely passing is being mourned across Pakistan and abroad. While her journey ended too soon, the overwhelming compassion shown during her struggle remains a powerful reminder of unity, resilience, and humanity in times of need.
