Dhaka Karachi flights officially resumed after a 14-year gap, marking a major step forward in strengthening connectivity and bilateral ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh. The historic moment was celebrated on Thursday when the inaugural flight of Bangladesh’s national airline landed at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, where it received a traditional water cannon salute.

According to Pakistan’s High Commission in Dhaka, the flight was fully booked and departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, reflecting strong public interest in the revived route. Senior officials from both countries were present to mark the occasion, including Bangladesh’s Civil Aviation and Tourism Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin and Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh Imran Haider, who jointly attended the launch ceremony.

Officials described the resumption of Dhaka Karachi flights as a significant milestone in restoring long-suspended air links and enhancing people-to-people engagement. Speaking at the ceremony, Sheikh Bashiruddin emphasized that the route would help promote tourism, improve business connectivity, and strengthen cultural exchanges between the two nations.

He also announced that Bangladesh’s national airline plans to gradually increase flight frequency while working to reduce airfares, making travel more accessible and affordable. Expressing optimism, he said the renewed route would encourage Bangladeshi travelers to visit Pakistan and experience its natural landscapes, historical sites, and diverse cuisine.

Pakistan’s High Commissioner Imran Haider highlighted the broader diplomatic vision behind the move. He recalled discussions held during Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar’s visit to Dhaka in August last year, where both sides agreed to take immediate steps to restore direct air connectivity. He noted that the initiative aligns with the leadership’s shared goal of strengthening regional cooperation.

The flight resumption comes amid improving Pakistan-Bangladesh relations, as trade and cultural exchanges have steadily increased. Cargo shipping routes between Karachi and Chittagong port were restored in late 2024, boosting trade volumes. In recent months, Pakistani artists have performed in Dhaka, while Bangladeshi patients have traveled to Pakistan for medical treatment.

Overall, the return of Dhaka Karachi flights signals a renewed chapter of cooperation, mobility, and regional engagement.
