A tragic fatal accident in DHA Karachi has sparked public concern after the driver involved was released following a family pardon. The incident occurred late at night in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area near Khayaban e Ittihad, where a speeding car struck and killed a food delivery rider.
According to police officials, the victim, 32 year old Farhan, was a resident of Thatta and worked as a food delivery rider. He suffered severe head injuries after being hit by a fast moving vehicle that reportedly lost control near a traffic signal. Despite being rushed for medical assistance, Farhan later succumbed to his injuries, leaving his family and community in deep grief.
Initially, reports suggested that the driver fled the scene, pretending to offer help before disappearing. However, investigations later revealed that the suspect, identified as Hasan Bhangwar, had actually been taken into police custody, although authorities did not disclose his detention for nearly 16 hours. This delay raised serious questions about the transparency of the investigation.
Police confirmed that the victim’s family decided to pardon the accused, stating they forgave him for the sake of Allah and did not wish to pursue legal action. A written reconciliation agreement signed by Farhan’s father, Gul Zaman, who works as a driver at Bilawal House, described the incident as accidental and confirmed the family’s decision to drop charges.
Investigators reported that Hasan Bhangwar claimed he was driving with a friend when a motorcycle suddenly appeared on the road. However, police estimated the vehicle’s speed to be between 130 and 140 kilometres per hour, raising concerns about overspeeding, signal violation, and possible underage driving without a licence.
Farhan’s body was later transported to Thatta for burial, while authorities stated they would remain in contact with the family. Despite the legal pardon, the driver’s release without further legal proceedings has triggered widespread debate about road safety laws, accountability, and justice in Karachi.
