Bangladesh cricket has been shaken by a major controversy after national players threatened to boycott all forms of cricket following remarks made by Bangladesh Cricket Board director M Nazmul Islam against former captain Tamim Iqbal. The situation escalated after Nazmul allegedly referred to Tamim as an Indian agent, triggering outrage across the cricketing community.

The boycott warning was announced by Mohammad Mithun, president of the Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh, who said players would refuse to play unless Nazmul steps down. With Bangladesh Premier League matches scheduled the same day, concerns quickly grew over potential match disruptions. Mithun stated that the comments undermined the dignity, professionalism, and respect of players.

Following strong backlash, the Bangladesh Cricket Board distanced itself from the remarks and issued an official statement expressing regret over any offensive comments. The board clarified that statements made outside official channels represent personal opinions and do not reflect the board’s stance. It also warned that disciplinary action could be taken against anyone whose conduct harms the integrity of Bangladesh cricket.

CWAB strongly condemned the remarks, calling them insulting to Tamim Iqbal, one of the most successful players in Bangladesh’s history. The association submitted a formal protest letter demanding accountability and a public apology.

Later, Nazmul issued a clarification on social media, saying his statement was purely personal, but the controversy continues to raise serious questions about governance and respect within Bangladesh cricket.
