ISLAMABAD: Former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) after sustaining injuries from a fall at his residence, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed on Thursday in an official health update.

The ISPR stated that General Bajwa is currently under medical supervision at CMH, receiving treatment and care from the hospital’s medical team. According to sources close to the family, he was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) after sustaining a head injury, and his condition is being closely monitored by senior medical specialists.

Family sources provided additional details about the incident, stating that General Bajwa fell in the bathroom of his home at approximately 4:30 am on Tuesday. Following the accident, he was promptly taken to CMH for immediate evaluation and treatment, ensuring that all necessary medical attention was provided.

General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa held the position of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) from 2016 to 2022, playing a pivotal role in shaping the operational and strategic policies of the Pakistan Army during his tenure. He officially retired from the position on November 29, 2022, leaving behind a legacy of leadership and significant contributions to national security.

Before his appointment as COAS, General Bajwa served at the General Headquarters (GHQ) as Inspector General of Training and Evaluation, where he oversaw army training programs and operational readiness. He also held critical positions in the 10 Corps, serving as a Lieutenant Colonel and General Staff Officer (GSO), where he was responsible for planning and executing key military operations.

In addition to his service within Pakistan, General Bajwa also represented the country internationally, serving with the United Nations mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo as a brigade commander. His overseas experience provided him with valuable insight into multinational military coordination and peacekeeping operations. Domestically, he contributed to the development of future army officers by serving as Commandant of the Infantry School in Quetta, where he was responsible for training and mentoring infantry leadership.

General (retd) Bajwa comes from the infantry’s Baloch Regiment, a unit renowned for producing some of Pakistan’s most notable army chiefs, including Gen Yahya Khan, Gen Mirza Aslam Beg, and Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani. His career trajectory reflects decades of distinguished service, both in operational roles and in positions of strategic leadership.

As of now, medical authorities continue to monitor his condition closely, ensuring that he receives the best possible care. His family and supporters have expressed their prayers for his speedy recovery, and senior military officials have extended their support during this period.
