Pakistan has issued a strong demarche to the Afghan Taliban regime following the deadly Bajaur terror attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that resulted in the martyrdom of 11 Pakistan Army soldiers. The move came after Islamabad formally summoned the Afghan envoy to express deep concern over the rising cross border security threats.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan strongly condemned the vehicle borne suicide blast followed by a fire raid on a joint military and law enforcement checkpost in Bajaur on February 16. The attack was claimed to have been carried out by Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan TTP, also referred to as Fitna al Khwarij.
The military’s media wing, Inter Services Public Relations, confirmed that 12 terrorists linked to an India backed proxy were killed during the exchange of fire, while 11 security personnel embraced martyrdom in the line of duty. The government emphasized that the leadership of TTP continues to operate from Afghan soil and accused Kabul of failing to take visible and concrete action despite repeated assurances.
In its official communication, Pakistan demanded immediate, verifiable steps against all terrorist groups using Afghan territory. Officials also made it clear that Pakistan reserves the right to respond against TTP militants and their affiliates wherever they may be located in order to safeguard national security and territorial integrity.
Since the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in 2021, Pakistan has witnessed a noticeable increase in terror incidents, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Data shared earlier by military officials revealed thousands of intelligence based operations conducted nationwide in 2025, resulting in the elimination of over two thousand terrorists. Authorities maintain that Afghan militants were involved in several major attacks targeting civilians and security forces.
