Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam has once again etched his name into cricket history by becoming the highest fifty maker in men’s T20Is, surpassing Indian legend Virat Kohli. The landmark moment came during Pakistan’s third T20I against Australia at the Gaddafi Stadium, where Babar delivered a calm yet commanding performance.
The former Pakistan captain scored an unbeaten 50 off 36 balls, striking three boundaries and one six. This innings marked his 39th half century in T20 internationals, pushing him ahead of Kohli, who ended his illustrious T20I career last year with 38 fifties after helping India lift the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Babar’s achievement highlights his consistency, class, and dominance in the shortest format. At just 31 years of age, he now leads an elite list that includes some of the greatest batters in modern cricket. Former India captain Rohit Sharma sits third with 37 half-centuries, followed by Mohammad Rizwan with 31, while Australia’s David Warner rounds out the top five with 29.
Beyond this milestone, Babar Azam remains the leading run scorer in men’s T20Is, amassing 4,505 runs in 139 innings. He boasts an impressive average of 39.51, a strike rate of 128.38, and has also registered three centuries in the format, underlining his long-term impact.
Babar’s record-breaking knock played a key role in Pakistan posting their highest-ever T20I total against Australia, finishing at 207 for 6. Opener Saim Ayub led the charge with a fluent 56 off 37 balls, while Shadab Khan added late fireworks, smashing 46 from just 19 deliveries.
Together, the trio showcased Pakistan’s batting depth and intent. However, the night belonged to Babar Azam, whose latest milestone further cements his status as one of the greatest T20 batters of his generation.
