Saudi Arabia has officially confirmed that the iconic King Fahd Sports City Stadium in Riyadh will host both the opening match and the final of the prestigious AFC Asian Cup in 2027. The announcement was made by the Asian Football Confederation in Kuala Lumpur, highlighting the stadium’s importance as the centerpiece venue for Asia’s biggest football tournament.

With a seating capacity exceeding 70,000 spectators, the stadium stands as the largest venue among the eight selected locations for the tournament. Often referred to as “The Tent”, its distinctive roof design reflects traditional Bedouin architecture, symbolizing the rich cultural heritage of Saudi Arabia. The stadium will not only host the opening and closing matches but will also stage four group stage games, a round of 16 match, and a quarterfinal clash.

The Asian Cup 2027 will take place from January 7 to February 5, serving as a major milestone in Saudi Arabia’s preparations for hosting the FIFA World Cup 2034. This tournament is seen as an opportunity for the country to showcase its modern infrastructure, organizational strength, and growing influence in global football.

In addition to Riyadh, matches will also be played in the vibrant cities of Jeddah and Al Khobar, ensuring fans across the country can experience the excitement. The official draw, which will determine match fixtures and kickoff times, is scheduled for April 11 in Riyadh.

The previous edition of the tournament was hosted and won by Qatar, while China had initially been selected for 2023 before withdrawing due to pandemic restrictions.

With world class venues and strong planning, the Asian Cup 2027 promises to be a landmark event, reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s position as a rising hub for international football.
