Abu Dhabi has announced plans to establish a national scale artificial intelligence supercomputer in India with a massive computing capacity of 8 exaflops, marking a major step forward in the country’s AI infrastructure development. The announcement was made during the AI Impact Summit 2026 held in New Delhi, highlighting the deepening technology partnership between the two nations.

This initiative follows the fifth India UAE Strategic Dialogue in December 2025 and the visit of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to India in January 2026. These high level engagements strengthened cooperation in critical sectors such as defence, space, energy, and advanced technology.

The supercomputer will be delivered by G42, a leading technology group based in Abu Dhabi, in collaboration with US firm Cerebras, known for manufacturing high performance AI computing systems. The project also includes participation from Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) and India’s Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), which specialises in supercomputing and advanced IT research.

An 8 exaflop system can perform eight quintillion calculations per second, placing it among the most powerful computing platforms globally. Officials believe this investment will significantly boost India’s ability to train and deploy advanced AI models domestically.

Importantly, the supercomputer will be hosted within India and operate under governance frameworks defined by Indian authorities. All data will remain within national jurisdiction to meet sovereign security and regulatory requirements.

The project builds on earlier collaboration between G42 and MBZUAI, including the release of NANDA 87B, an open source Hindi English large language model with 87 billion parameters designed to support regional language AI applications.

This development represents a powerful milestone in India UAE technology cooperation and signals a new era of AI driven innovation.
