The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has issued a strict warning to all centrally contracted players, emphasizing that no social media posts should be made without prior approval from its media department. This directive comes after increased scrutiny over players’ online activity and contractual obligations.

The advisory was circulated following the Rs20 million fine imposed on fast bowler Naseem Shah, who faced disciplinary action for a tweet referencing Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The board clarified that such posts violate the social media policy outlined in central contracts.

According to sources, players have been reminded to strictly follow the contract clauses and avoid any political content online. Managers of the players were also briefed about these guidelines to ensure compliance. The PCB stressed that political posts will not be tolerated under any circumstances, and violations could result in penalties starting from Rs10 million.

The controversy gained momentum during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) opening ceremony at Gaddafi Stadium, where Maryam Nawaz attended as chief guest. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi introduced her to franchise owners and players, after which a post from Naseem’s account sparked widespread debate.

The tweet, which was a quote-retweet of the PCB’s official post, quickly drew attention and triggered mixed reactions among fans and the cricketing community. Naseem later clarified that his account had been hacked, assuring followers that the post was not intentional. He confirmed that the account had been recovered successfully.

This incident has prompted the PCB to tighten its monitoring of players’ online presence, reinforcing that discipline and professionalism must extend beyond the cricket field. The board’s move highlights its determination to safeguard the image of Pakistan cricket and prevent controversies that could damage its reputation.
