A serious disruption has affected gas supply across Balochistan after a major pipeline explosion in Quetta, leaving several areas without gas. According to officials, unknown armed individuals targeted an 18-inch main gas pipeline in the Western Bypass area near Akhtarabad. The powerful blast caused a fire and immediately halted gas distribution in multiple areas.
The outage has impacted several parts of Quetta, including Hazara Town, Hazarganji, Khaizi, and Nohsar. In addition, gas supply has been suspended in nearby districts such as Pishin, Ziarat, Kalat, Mastung, and Kuchlak. Authorities confirmed that the pipeline suffered severe damage, making immediate restoration impossible.
A spokesperson for the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) stated that a large section of the pipeline was completely destroyed. Engineering teams and technical staff quickly reached the site to assess the damage and prepare a repair plan. However, restoration work will only begin after receiving security clearance.
The SSGC Balochistan General Manager said that repair work is expected to start today once clearance is granted. Replacement pipes will be transported from Karachi, which may slightly delay the restoration process. Meanwhile, a strong presence of security forces has been deployed around gas installations in Quetta to ensure safety and prevent further incidents.
Residents have been advised to arrange alternative gas sources for the next one to two days while repair work continues. This disruption is likely to affect daily life, especially for households and businesses that rely on gas for essential use.
Authorities have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to restore supply as soon as possible and have urged citizens to stay updated with official announcements.
