Residents of Karachi should prepare for a significant change in weather as rain and strong winds are expected to hit the city starting from the night of April 1. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the intensity of rainfall is likely to increase on April 2 due to a westerly weather system entering Balochistan through Iran.
The department has predicted that some areas of Karachi could receive 50mm or more rainfall, which may lead to urban flooding in low-lying regions. Alongside the rain, strong winds exceeding 50 km/h are also expected, raising concerns about potential damage to infrastructure.
The weather system is expected to continue affecting Karachi on April 3, while its overall impact across the country may last until April 4 or even beyond. In a recent advisory, the PMD highlighted that this system will gradually spread from southwestern Balochistan to other provinces, bringing widespread rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds.
Cities across Sindh, including Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Larkana, are also likely to experience rainfall and thunderstorms, with chances of isolated hailstorms during this period. The department has warned of possible secondary hazards, such as damage to weak structures, billboards, solar panels, and electricity systems due to strong winds and lightning.
Additionally, standing crops in Sindh and nearby regions may face risks from hail and strong winds, which could impact agricultural output. The ongoing weather conditions are also expected to bring a noticeable drop in daytime temperatures, providing temporary relief from heat.
Authorities have urged citizens, travelers, and tourists to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay updated with official advisories. Relevant departments have been instructed to stay alert and prepared to handle any emergencies during this period.
