Air pollution in Punjab has worsened significantly, with Lahore once again listed among the world’s most polluted cities, as reported by an international environmental monitoring website.

The provincial capital recorded an alarming Air Quality Index (AQI) of 324, classifying it in the “hazardous” category. This level of pollution poses severe health risks for millions of residents.

The situation is equally concerning in other major cities across Punjab. Faisalabad reported the highest pollution levels in the province, with its AQI reaching 400, indicating extremely toxic air conditions. Gujranwala’s AQI stood at 300, while Multan recorded an AQI of 265 each significantly surpassing the safe limits set by global health standards.

Experts have warned that the high concentration of smog could lead to an increase in respiratory illnesses, eye irritation, and heart-related issues. Health professionals are strongly advising the public to wear protective masks, limit outdoor exposure, and use air purifiers inside their homes to minimize health risks.

As air quality continues to deteriorate, authorities are urging citizens to adopt precautionary measures. Punjab is grappling with one of its most severe pollution episodes of the season, and it remains critical for residents to take all necessary steps to protect their health.
