Jamaat-e-Islami chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman announced on Monday that the party will share details of the next stage in its campaign against the fuel levy after October 7. Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, he strongly criticised the government’s recent petrol relief package, calling it neither a favour nor a real solution for the public.
He stated that the package was only introduced because the government felt pressure. According to him, it fails to help every motorcycle rider even though nearly four million motorcycles are on the roads. Hafiz Naeem made it clear that the only proper answer is the complete removal of the petroleum levy.
The party had earlier started a march on September 21 demanding the end of the fuel levy. The protest was paused the next day after the prime minister appealed for talks and promised a meeting with JI leaders. The prime minister then left for the United Nations General Assembly and returned this week, yet no meeting has taken place so far.
During the presser, Hafiz Naeem also questioned why other political parties remain quiet on the petroleum issue. He asked openly why everyone stays silent when ordinary people continue to suffer from high fuel costs. He further pointed out that a separate system for the wealthy cannot work in the long run and will only create more division.
The JI leader repeated that the petrol relief package should never be seen as a gift from the government. People need real relief, not temporary measures that leave most motorcyclists without proper benefit. He stressed once again that abolishing the petroleum levy remains the only lasting solution.
With the next phase of the protest set to be announced after October 7, Jamaat-e-Islami continues to keep the pressure on the authorities. The party’s stance shows that public demands for lower fuel prices will not fade easily. Ordinary citizens, especially those who rely on motorcycles for daily travel, are still waiting for genuine relief from rising costs. The coming days will show how the government responds to this renewed call for the complete end of the fuel levy.
