President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari are currently in Vienna, Austria, for private discussions regarding Bilawal’s possible engagement and future marriage. A source within the Pakistan Peoples Party who has direct knowledge of the matter confirmed the developments while speaking on condition of anonymity.
The source revealed that the father and son have already held three separate meetings with members of the prospective bride’s family since arriving in Austria three days ago. The young woman is said to belong to a prominent European family with connections to Austria’s former royal household. Some reports have linked her to the House of Habsburg Lorraine, describing her as a descendant of Karl I, the last reigning Emperor of Austria.
According to the same source, Bilawal and the prospective bride have known each other for several years and share many common friends. The wedding could likely take place in Vienna later this year if the discussions conclude successfully. After their stay in Austria, President Zardari and Bilawal are expected to travel to the United Kingdom, where they plan to spend around ten days in London and other parts of the country. Members of the prospective bride’s family are also expected to join the Bhutto Zardari family during that period.
The Presidency had earlier confirmed that President Zardari travelled abroad on a private visit but did not share the exact purpose. This marks his first extended trip to Britain in nearly five years. Bilawal, an Oxford University graduate, has often visited the UK for both personal and political reasons. His sisters are expected to join the family in London, while his aunt Sanam Bhutto is already present in the city after attending a recent wedding.
Interestingly, even senior PPP leaders and people close to the family remained unaware of these marriage discussions until about two days ago. No official announcement regarding any engagement or wedding plans has been issued by the Bhutto Zardari family or the party. Meanwhile, Karachi Mayor and senior PPP leader Murtaza Wahab has publicly denied the reports, calling the circulating accounts incorrect.
Despite the denials and lack of formal confirmation, speculation continues to grow around the private visit and the reported family talks in Vienna.
