Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has left for Kyrgyzstan on a three day official visit after receiving an invitation from Kyrgyz President Sadyr Nurgozhoevich Zhaparov. The Prime Minister Office confirmed the departure on Monday. The visit runs from August 31 to September 2 and carries special importance for Pakistan on the regional stage.
During the trip PM Shehbaz will address the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit and clearly present Pakistan’s position on key regional and global matters. He travels with a high level team that includes Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, Communication Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, Information Minister Ataullah Tarar, and senior officials.
The Foreign Office earlier announced that the Premier will take part in the SCO Plus Summit and assume Pakistan’s chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State for the 2026-2027 term. This leadership role places Pakistan at the center of important discussions among member states.
On the sidelines of the main summit events PM Shehbaz plans bilateral meetings with leaders of several participating countries. He will also attend the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games on August 31. These interactions offer valuable chances to strengthen ties and explore new areas of cooperation.
On September 2 the Prime Minister will hold detailed talks with President Zhaparov covering the full range of Pakistan Kyrgyzstan relations. Both sides will review existing links and look for practical ways to expand cooperation in trade and investment, energy, regional connectivity, education, tourism, and people to people contacts. They will also exchange views on regional and international developments of mutual interest and discuss joint work at regional and multilateral forums.
Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan already enjoy warm and friendly relations built on shared history, faith, cultural closeness, and common goals of peace, connectivity, and progress across Central and South Asia. Recent high level exchanges have created positive momentum. This visit gives both countries a strong opportunity to turn political goodwill into concrete results and deepen their lasting partnership.
The trip highlights Pakistan’s active role in regional organizations and its commitment to building stronger ties with Central Asian nations. Through the SCO platform and direct bilateral engagement, PM Shehbaz aims to advance shared interests and promote greater stability and prosperity in the wider region.
