Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem was unable to defend his Commonwealth Games men’s javelin title after finishing ninth in the final at Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow. The defending champion entered the competition with high expectations after winning gold in 2022 with a remarkable throw of 90.18 metres, but this time he struggled to produce his best performance.
Nadeem’s campaign began with a foul on his opening attempt, putting him under immediate pressure. His second throw of 77.41 metres became his best effort of the competition, but it was not enough to move him into the top eight. He needed a stronger final throw to stay in medal contention, yet his third attempt reached only 75.39 metres, leaving him in ninth place and ending his challenge before the remaining rounds.
Earlier in the event, Nadeem had qualified for the final by recording a best throw of 78.63 metres, finishing seventh in the qualification round. Since no athlete achieved the automatic qualifying mark of 84 metres, the top 12 performers advanced to the final based on their distances.
The competition was dominated by Sri Lanka’s Ramesh Tharanga, who delivered an outstanding 89.75-metre throw to take the lead. India’s Neeraj Chopra secured second place with a best throw of 85.83 metres, while several other competitors also produced consistent performances that kept them ahead of the Pakistani star.
Pakistan’s second participant, Yasir Sultan, was unable to qualify for the final. He finished 14th in the qualification round with a best throw of 74.36 metres, missing out on a place among the finalists.
Although the result was disappointing for Arshad Nadeem, he remains one of Pakistan’s greatest athletes and continues to inspire millions through his achievements. Fans will now look forward to his return in upcoming international competitions, hoping he can regain top form and add more medals to his impressive career.
