A deadly terrorist attack on the Khazina Banda police checkpost in Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa claimed the lives of 10 police personnel, including Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Diyar Khan, according to police officials. The tragic assault also left 22 police officers injured, while security forces responded with a strong counterattack that killed several militants.
District Police Officer Tariq Habib confirmed that the terrorists launched a coordinated assault on the police checkpost. Despite the heavy attack, police personnel fought back with determination. During the exchange of fire, eight terrorists were killed, while six others were injured. Authorities stated that a clearance operation remained underway to eliminate any remaining militants and secure the area.
The attack highlights the continuing security challenges facing Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, where terrorist activities have increased significantly over the past few years. Security forces have intensified operations against militant groups in an effort to restore peace and protect civilians.
Pakistan has repeatedly urged the Afghan authorities to prevent militant groups from using Afghan territory to launch attacks across the border. After raising concerns over continued cross border terrorism, Pakistan initiated Operation Ghazab lil Haq earlier this year to target militant networks involved in attacks against the country.
The latest attack came only hours after the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced that 32 India backed terrorists had been eliminated during separate security operations carried out across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan within the previous 24 hours.
According to a recent report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan remained the regions most affected by militant violence during the second quarter of 2026. Together, both provinces accounted for nearly 96 percent of all violence related fatalities, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recording the highest number of incidents. Security officials have reaffirmed their commitment to continuing intelligence based operations to dismantle terrorist networks and improve public safety across the country.
