Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for preserving the hard earned peace gains achieved in the Middle East, urging all parties to exercise restraint following renewed tensions between Iran and the United States. The appeal came during a telephone conversation with Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.

During the discussion, PM Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep concern over the recent escalation in the region and stressed the urgent need to maintain peace through dialogue and diplomacy. He urged Iran and all other stakeholders to avoid actions that could undermine the stability achieved over recent months.

The prime minister also emphasized the importance of honoring commitments made under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). He described the agreement as an important framework for promoting regional peace, mutual respect, cooperation, and long term prosperity.

The conversation took place after fresh military tensions emerged following reported Iranian strikes on US military installations in Gulf states in response to earlier American attacks inside Iran. The renewed conflict has placed additional pressure on the Pakistan brokered ceasefire reached only a few weeks ago.

Prime Minister Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to promoting peace in the region and assured President Pezeshkian that Islamabad would continue playing a constructive role in encouraging dialogue and reducing tensions. He reiterated that Pakistan remains ready to support every effort aimed at maintaining stability in the Middle East.

President Masoud Pezeshkian appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and other Pakistani leaders for attending the funeral ceremony of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He also praised Pakistan’s continued support for regional peace and cooperation.

The two leaders also reviewed progress on decisions taken during President Pezeshkian’s recent visit to Islamabad and agreed to accelerate cooperation in multiple sectors to further strengthen bilateral relations.

Separately, Prime Minister Shehbaz also spoke with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, expressing Pakistan’s solidarity with the people of Qatar. He thanked the Qatari leadership for supporting peace initiatives that resulted in the Islamabad MoU and reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to promoting peace, stability, and prosperity throughout the region.
