US President Donald Trump celebrated the 250th anniversary of American independence with a major speech in Washington, DC, praising the nation’s history while also criticizing what he described as the growing influence of communism in the United States.

Speaking before thousands gathered on the National Mall during the Fourth of July celebrations, Trump called America the “crowning achievement of human history.” He said the country was stronger, more united, and prouder under his leadership. Although the event was expected to be highly political, much of his address focused on honoring the nation’s history, military service, and national pride.

During the speech, Trump paid tribute to World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War veterans, thanking them for their sacrifices in defending freedom. However, he also used the occasion to warn against what he called the rise of communist ideology in the country. He argued that American soldiers had fought against communism overseas and insisted that similar ideas should not gain influence at home.

The president also highlighted recent US military operations, claiming that American forces had significantly weakened Iran’s military capabilities. He briefly referred to actions involving Venezuela, presenting them as examples of America’s strength on the global stage.

Severe weather delayed the ceremony for several hours after authorities temporarily evacuated the National Mall due to approaching thunderstorms. While many attendees followed evacuation orders, some refused to leave, creating moments of confusion before the event eventually resumed. Despite the delay, Trump delivered a speech lasting around 45 minutes, followed by a large fireworks display celebrating the nation’s historic milestone.

Across the United States, millions of Americans marked the anniversary with parades, concerts, and fireworks despite record-breaking temperatures and weather warnings in several cities. While supporters praised Trump’s message of patriotism and national pride, critics pointed to ongoing political divisions. A recent Quinnipiac University poll found that many Americans believe the country is still falling short of the ideals outlined in the Declaration of Independence.
