A mass shooting in New York City left eight people injured, including four children, during Independence Day celebrations late Saturday night. The incident took place in the Coney Island neighborhood of Brooklyn, sending emergency responders rushing to the scene as residents celebrated the national holiday.

According to reports, officers from the New York Police Department (NYPD) arrived at West 31st Street around 10:37 p.m. local time after receiving multiple reports of gunfire. Authorities quickly secured the area and began assisting the victims while investigators started collecting evidence.

Among those injured were two men, two women, and four children aged 14, 12, 7, and 6. All victims were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Officials said seven victims are in stable condition, while a 21 year old woman remains in critical condition. Medical teams continue to monitor her condition closely.

Police confirmed that a firearm was recovered at the scene during the investigation. However, no arrests have been made so far, and detectives are working to determine what led to the shooting. Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage, interviewing witnesses, and asking anyone with information to come forward.

The shooting occurred as thousands of people gathered across the city to celebrate the 250th anniversary of United States independence. The violence has once again raised concerns about public safety, particularly during large public events and holiday celebrations.

The investigation remains active, and officials have not yet released details about a possible suspect or motive. The NYPD is expected to provide additional updates as more information becomes available. Residents and visitors are encouraged to cooperate with investigators if they have any relevant information that could help solve the case.
