The latest round of US Iran talks in Doha has ended with what mediators described as positive progress, offering fresh hope for reducing tensions between the two long-time rivals.

The indirect negotiations were held with the support of Qatar and Pakistan, following a memorandum of understanding signed in June. That agreement introduced a 60-day ceasefire after months of military escalation involving the United States, Iran, and Israel. It also reopened the critical Strait of Hormuz, a major route for global oil shipments.

According to officials, the recent talks focused on several important issues, including ways to maintain the ceasefire, manage security in the Gulf, and discuss Iran’s nuclear future. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi confirmed that both sides agreed to establish a communication channel to monitor and report any violations of the agreement.

Another major topic was Iran’s frozen assets. Tehran has been pushing for access to billions of dollars held abroad, and reports suggest that part of an initial $6 billion package may now be used to purchase essential goods for the country.

US President Donald Trump also commented on the talks, saying the process of Iran’s denuclearisation is moving in the right direction.

However, many key issues remain unresolved. The future of the Strait of Hormuz, reconstruction funding for Iran, and long-term peace arrangements are still under discussion.

The next round of US Iran talks is expected after the funeral of Iran’s late supreme leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed earlier this year.

Although recent military exchanges between both sides have slowed, tensions remain high. Analysts believe the coming negotiations will be crucial in deciding whether diplomacy can bring lasting stability to the region.
