Nishtar Hospital HIV negligence has raised serious concerns after a patient tested HIV-positive following surgery at Multan’s Nishtar Hospital. The incident has sparked an official investigation into possible medical negligence and failures in following proper hospital safety procedures.
According to hospital officials, the patient underwent surgery without completing the mandatory HIV screening test, which is considered a critical part of pre-surgical protocols. Reports suggest that a junior doctor noticed the missing HIV report during the file review before surgery, but the concern was allegedly ignored, and the operation proceeded.
After the surgery, the patient was tested and found to be HIV-positive, creating fear among doctors, nurses, and other healthcare staff who may have been exposed during the procedure. In response, the hospital administration quickly formed a four-member inquiry committee to investigate the matter and submit a report within two days.
Dr. Riwad Noor, who is part of the inquiry team and heads infectious diseases, confirmed that all necessary preventive actions had been taken. Surgical instruments and the operating theatre were disinfected according to hospital protocols to minimize any risk of infection.
Hospital sources also revealed that this patient had previously undergone two surgeries at the same hospital, and earlier HIV tests had returned negative results. However, during the latest operation, the required test was skipped, which has now become the center of the investigation.
This case has once again highlighted the importance of strict infection-control measures in hospitals. Medical experts stress that ignoring standard procedures can endanger both healthcare workers and patients.
Nishtar Hospital has faced similar controversies before. In 2024, multiple dialysis patients were infected with HIV due to alleged negligence, making this latest incident another serious challenge for the hospital’s reputation.
