Pakistan has taken another important step towards improving public services as cashless transactions are now fully operational at all passport offices across the country. The announcement was made by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who said the new payment system is designed to make the passport application process quicker, easier, and more transparent for citizens.
According to Mohsin Naqvi, applicants no longer have to stand in long queues or spend hours waiting to submit cash payments. Instead, they can now complete their transactions through digital payment methods, helping reduce delays and making the overall experience more convenient. He added that this initiative was introduced under the guidance of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as part of the government’s broader plan to modernize public services.
The interior minister stated that the successful implementation of the cashless payment system reflects the government’s commitment to providing fast, transparent, and citizen-friendly services. He appreciated the efforts of the passport department, praising the entire team for their dedication in completing the project successfully. He also expressed confidence that more public service reforms will be introduced in the near future.
The launch of cashless payments follows another major announcement by Director General of Immigration and Passports Muhammad Ali Randhawa, who recently revealed an extensive digital transformation plan for passport services. The upcoming passport mobile application will allow citizens to apply for new passports, renew existing ones, track application status, and access important passport-related services directly from their smartphones.
In addition, the department is preparing to introduce a home delivery service, enabling applicants to receive their passports at their doorstep instead of visiting passport offices multiple times. Authorities are also implementing QR code based payment options to simplify transactions further and help eliminate illegal practices. These initiatives represent a significant move toward creating a modern, efficient, and technology driven passport system that offers greater convenience and transparency for citizens across Pakistan.
