FIFA has announced that vuvuzelas, along with several other loud noise-making devices, will not be allowed inside stadiums during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The decision is part of the organization’s updated stadium code of conduct aimed at creating a safer and more enjoyable environment for players and spectators.

The vuvuzela, a long plastic horn that became famous during the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, is well known for producing a continuous buzzing sound. While many fans consider it a symbol of football culture, others have criticized its loud and distracting noise, often comparing it to the sound of a swarm of bees. Because of these concerns, FIFA has decided to prohibit the instrument at all tournament venues.

In addition to vuvuzelas, the new regulations also ban whistles, air horns, and any excessively loud devices that could disturb the atmosphere of the matches. FIFA has also prohibited laser pointers and any instruments capable of emitting laser beams, citing safety and security reasons.

The updated guidelines include rules regarding spectator behavior as well. The organization has clarified that body paint and body tattoos are not considered clothing, meaning fans must wear appropriate attire while attending matches. Activities such as streaking, flashing, or removing clothing to expose intimate body parts are strictly forbidden and may result in immediate removal from the venue.

Another notable rule is the restriction on bringing reusable water bottles into stadiums. FIFA stated that this measure is intended to improve security and reduce potential safety risks during the tournament.

Officials have warned that anyone violating the stadium code of conduct may be denied entry or removed from the venue. The expanded 48-team FIFA World Cup, hosted jointly by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026, with Mexico opening the tournament against South Africa.
